The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is celebrating its 50th anniversary and with 2020 underway the celebrations can begin.

To kick off the festivities, park rangers and volunteers from the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes and Historic Sleeping Bear are hosting the Hibernation Celebration on Saturday, January 18th at the Dune Climb in Leelanau County.  Families can come out and not only sled down the dunes but are encouraged to take part in the guided snowshoe tours, hiking along the trails and experience the snow sculptures.

People are required to have a park pass to get into the celebration but they can be picked up at the visitor center in Empire.
