Hook & Hunting: Fish Stocking

The Michigan DNR had big stocking numbers in 2019.

More than 21 million fish have been stocked in Michigan waters.

That includes various types of trout, walleye, salmon, and even some catfish downstate.

The Harrietta State Fish Hatchery stocked almost a million brown and rainbow trout.

The DNR says it’s all in an effort to keep anglers hooked on fishing.

“The reason that we go to all the effort to raise those fish and stock them is pretty simple. It’s so that people can go fishing and catch them and have the enjoyment of spending time out in nature on all the wonderful waters that we have in Michigan,”

A total of 311 tons of fish were released into public waters.
