Grand Traverse Deputies Arrest Men Accused of Passing Counterfeit Bills

Two downstate men are in the Grand Traverse County Jail accused of passing counterfeit bills to several businesses.

The sheriff’s office says they took three calls from different businesses within about one hour on Monday morning.

Investigators say the two downstate men used fake $50 bills to buy items at Walgreens, Target, and Walmart.

A deputy confronted the men in their car at the Grand Traverse Mall parking lot.

That’s where the sheriff’s office says the driver put the car in reverse as the deputy tased him.

The officer then stopped the car from rolling, but the driver ran off.

He was caught by another deputy across the street.

The two men face multiple charges.
