Fisherman in southern Italy near Sicily spotted a pod of killer whales, which rarely venture that far into the Mediterranean.

It started with just the dorsal fins above the water, but as the men got closer, they saw more and more of the whales.

It’s the first sighting in the narrow straits.

The fishermen reportedly calling it a “gift from the sea”.

Marine biologists believe the killer whales came from Iceland, which marked the first ever record of orcas migrating between Iceland and Italy in killer whale research history.
