Memorial Service Scheduled for Late Peninsula Township Fire Chief

, a memorial service for a Grand Traverse County fire chief will be held next weekend.

Retired Peninsula Township Fire Chief Rich Vandermey died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday.

He joined the department in 1975, became chief in 1986 and served in that role until he retired in 2013.

Services for Chief Vandermey are scheduled for Saturday, January 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church on the Old Mission Peninsula.

Visitation starts at 10 a.m. and the memorial will start at 11 a.m.
