When you think of the holidays you’re probably thinking of presents, trees and lights but the members of the Northern Michigan Railroad Club are dreaming about trains!

The Festival of Trains is an annual event that takes place at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City, where there are countless displays of model trains of all gauges through December 30th.

“It’s a place where your imagination can just go crazy. There’s nothing else I see that gets them that excited,” explains member of the Northern Michigan Railroad Club (NMRC) Bob Vaught.

Young or old the Festival of Trains draws in people from all over Northern Michigan and takes them all somewhere else. “It’s like real life! Like if you stare at it and pretend none of this stuff is here. It feels like you’re in that town,” explains 9 year old Rhyzan.

But don’t let the members fool you, they themselves are kids at heart and love sharing their passion for locomotives. “You watch their eyes light up and they have a hard time not getting involved too much. There’s just so much excitement and I got a feeling that a lot of them are ready for naps when they leave here,” explains Bob Vaught.
