Millions of Americans Could Lose Access to Food Stamps

3.7 million Americans could lose access to federal food stamps if proposed changes to the program get approved.

The Supplemental Nutrition Program known as SNAP gives an average of $127 per month to people in need.

That’s less than $2 a day for food.

A proposed change would remove automatic enrollment for families that qualify for other federal benefits.

It would reduce how much can be deducted for heating and require certain adults to work at least 20 hours a week.

24 states have urged the government to reconsider the proposals.
