Anti-Porch Pirate Law Now in Effect

Stealing a package from someone’s porch is now a state-level crime.

With the holiday season in full swing, package deliveries are on the rise and that means so are package thefts.

The new state law aims at targeting porch pirates.

A first offense would be a misdemeanor, with up to a year in jail.

A repeat offense would be a felony, with up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Stealing mail is also federal crime that hands down a five year prison sentence.
