Traverse City State Theatre Hosts Annual Polar Express PJ Party

Hundreds of families and kids got a Polar Express experience Sunday, all in the comfort of their own pajamas.

The State Theatre hosted their annual Polar Express PJ Party where anyone could come and see the movie, along with some goodies.

Kids got the full Polar Express experience with their very own tickets to the North Pole and even their own Christmas bells.

Plus some hot chocolate with marshmallows and cookies.

It was one for all ages as they think about their favorite part of the movie.

“My favorite part of the movie is at the end where he opens up the gift and it’s the Sleighbell,” said Deana Little, who took her kids to the show.

The State Theatre says this is one of their favorite events to host and something they look forward to all year long.

“It’s so much fun to be here today,” said Meg Weithman, the creative director at State Theatre. “All of our volunteers are also in pajamas.”

She says it’s something about this movie in particular that really gets people in the Christmas spirit.

“I’ve never seen a response to a movie quite like the Polar Express. Everyone loves it. The kids love it. Their eyes just light up,” said Weithman.

But if you missed the train on Sunday, don’t worry there are more opportunities to see this holiday movie.

“If you can’t make it to the Polar Express PJ Party, we do have five additional 25 cent kids matinees running December 20 until Christmas Eve,” said Weithman.

There’s also plenty of other fun Christmas events they host coming up in the next couple of weeks.
