Break and Entering Suspect Leads Deputies on Cross-County Chase

A theft suspect led deputies on a chase across multiple counties on Friday afternoon.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to make a traffic stop in Big Rapids Township around 1:30 p.m.

They say the driver sped off into the city of Big Rapids and evaded spike strips set up to stop them.

Deputies say the suspect then drove off to Newaygo County.

Once there, they say the driver started throwing items out of the car.

One of the items hit and damaged a Newaygo County patrol car which had joined in the pursuit.

A few miles later, the suspect collided with a patrol car.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office says officers were then able to block in the suspect and arrest them.

Deputies say the car driven by the suspect was full of stolen property.

They say the suspect admitted to breaking and entering in Osceola County just before the start of the chase.
