TART Trail System Receives Grant from DNR Trust Fund

The TART Trail System continues to grow thanks in part to a new $300,000 grant.

Acme Township was just approved for the grant.

It comes from the Michigan DNR Trust Fund.

The funding will allow the TART Trail to extend from Bunker Hill Road to Meijer and other businesses on M-72.

The almost two mile extension will give trail goers a safer route without having to use bike lanes on busy roads.

“One of our huge issues is Bunker Hill, everybody goes get’s there and you just stop and it doesn’t go anywhere. Well now we’re able to get you to the lake again where there’s a trailhead. In Acme, we have the resort which is one of our bigger employers and Meijer and this directly connects to Traverse City so now people can actually get on the trail and ride their bikes to work,” said Acme Township Treasurer Amy Jenema.

Construction on the trail extension is planned to begin in 2021.
