Suspect Charged With Killing TC Woman, Dumping Body in Leelanau Co.

Prosecutors officially charged a man with killing a woman and dumping her body in Leelanau County.

Frank Supal is charged with open murder.

We also learned the name of the victim is 62-year-old Wanda Lyons of Chicago.

Investigators spent the day searching for evidence by land, air, and water.

“At this point, we’re looking for anything that catches our eye that shouldn’t be here,” said Traverse City Police Department Captain Jim Bussell.

They scoured Grand Traverse Bay looking for anything Lyon’s killer may have tried to dispose of.

“You can still get DNA evidence off of things. It’s less likely, but it’s possible,” said Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Roy Raska.

Police say Lyons died of blunt force trauma, stab wounds, and strangulation.

The Grand Traverse County Assistant Prosecutor says Supal has a history of assault and aggravated domestic violence.

The latter charge happened just 2 months ago.

“It’s been all hands on deck. All of our resources are being utilized over the past couple days,” said Bussell.

Investigators believe Lyons and Supal knew each other.

“We don’t think it was random. It’s up to us to uncover the facts if that’s the case,” said Bussell.

Police say she was killed at the motel she was living at sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Her body was then found later Wednesday morning about 15 miles away from the motel in Leelanau County

Police say someone dragged her body over a hill and then dumped it in a field in Kasson Township.

Supal’s last three listed addresses are all near this intersection.

Supal will have a probable cause conference later this month and a preliminary examination coming up in the New Year.

Frank Supal is being held without bond.

He could face life in prison if convicted.
