Homicide Victim Found in Leelanau Co. Believed to Be Missing Traverse City Woman

Investigators say they have reason to believe a body found in Leelanau County was the woman reported missing in Traverse City earlier this week.

Leelanau County sheriff deputies found the body around 11:30 Wednesday morning with drag marks leading to it.

The body was on a hill near West Kasson Road and South Newman in Kasson Township.

They believed it had just been left there.

The sheriff believes the body belongs to a woman who was reported missing in Traverse City.

They do have a suspect in jail right now, but that person is in there for other charges.

Multiple agencies have been investigating all night.

They say it’s been difficult because of the single digit temperatures and blowing snow covering up evidence in the area.

What we know is that the body belonged to a woman in her 50s to 70s.

It may be a woman who was reported missing in Traverse City.

Earlier this week a Traverse City man reported his wife was gone.

Then Wednesday morning a female body was found.

They sent the body for an autopsy at Western Michigan University to see if the body is the woman that was reported missing.

Leelanau County Sheriff Borkovich expects to have the results Thursday afternoon.
