Choose Your Cause 2019

The holiday season is about giving and there is more than one way to give this year. You can give your time by volunteering, you can give your support by sponsoring something or someone, you can give materials to improve someone’s situation and lastly, you can always give monetarily to an organization.

The 9&10 Weather, Sports and News teams have each picked a local, Northern Michigan non-profit organization that matters to them and would like you to join in the spirit of giving. You can help contribute to our Northern Michigan communities this holiday season by working together and choosing a cause below.

The Father Fred Foundation

The Father Fred Foundation’s mission is to help everyone who comes to Father Fred seeking assistance so that no need in the community is unfulfilled. They help individuals and families with their essential needs.

Items Needed

Food- canned chicken or tuna, oatmeal, peanut butter, rice, beans, pasta soups and canned fruits

Clothing- current season clothing ready to go into another person’s home

Linens- sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels, wash cloths

Household goods- dishes, pots and pans, silverware

Furniture- mattresses and frames, dressers, sofas, tables and chairs, book shelves

Personal Care items- diapers, baby wipes, shampoos, soap, toothpaste/toothbrushes, feminine care products, deodorant

All donations are accepted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am-4pm

Wexford-Osceola Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to give new hope to low-income families in the form of affordable housing. They are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable housing a matter of conscience and action.

Items Needed

Volunteers! Help build a house for family in need or work at the ReStore

Building supplies, appliances, furniture, hardware, electronics, plumbing and heating materials, doors, windows, household items

All donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm

Cadillac Area YMCA

The Cadillac Area YMCA works to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn and grow in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Items Needed

New Sports Equipment including basketballs, volleyballs, youth footballs, indoor soccer balls, dodgeballs, pickleball equipment and more!

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan helps children realize their potential and build their futures by matching them with adult volunteers in fun and rewarding mentoring relationships. They serves Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties.

Salvation Army of Cadillac

The Salvation Army of Wexford, Grand Traverse, Emmet, Manistee, Missaukee and Kalkaska Counties works together with community organizations and services to meet the material and spiritual needs of individuals and families. Their goal is to provide supportive assistance to people facing crisis situations with programs such as a food pantry, energy and utility assistance, thrift stores and social programs.

Items Needed

Toys for the holidays, seasonal clothing, food

You can also give to The Salvation Army by volunteering to be a bell ringer, or helping with meals and events. (You can sign up for bell ringing here: )
