Illinois Man Arrested After Stealing Dog in Montcalm County
State police say an Illinois man has been arrested after a dog was taken during an armed robbery in Montcalm County.
Troopers were called to a home on South Blackmer Rd. in Bloomer Township Sunday around 7:30 a.m.
They say a man from Illinois went to a home there to buy a dog.
An argument broke out and the Illinois man fired a gun multiple times at the homeowner.
The homeowner then retrieved their rifle and fired back.
MSP says the Illinois man then drove off in a car with the stolen dog.
They say they found the suspect on South Blackmer Rd and attempted to make a traffic stop.
The man fled and made his way to Greenville with troopers following.
MSP says the chase ended when the car was disabled just south of M-57.
They say they were then able to arrest the suspect.
State police also say the dog was recovered and is unhurt.
During the chase, they say the Illinois man swerved into oncoming traffic on M-57 while driving a black Chrysler 300.
