About 3,000 people in Michigan are waiting each day for organ. These organs come from the ‘Gift of Life – Michigan’ organization.

For a few weeks in November, Gift of Life held a HOSA challenge to high schools to sign up students to become organ donors.

HOSA stands for ‘Health Occupations Students of America’. This state-wide competition helped register more than 13-hundred new organ donors.

Sault Area High School was just one of the schools to help the cause.

They were able to get two dozen students to sign up.

HOSA Student, Leksy Smith said, “We are not going to be needing our organs after we pass away so I think it is really cool that we are able to give our organs to someone who needs them right now and that we are helping someone even after we passed on.”
