The city of Manistee is taking a step back in time as festivities kicked off Thursday for the 31st Annual Victorian Sleighbell Parade and Old Christmas Weekend.

The festival of trees started Thursday which is one of dozens of events taking place this weekend.

The idea is to take people back and get a taste of history with horse drawn carriages, carolers dressed in Victorian style clothing and much more.

Organizers for the event say they expect to see thousands come out, especially for the big parade.

“It’s the old fashion Christmas I think that really draws people to it. It’s not electrifying. It’s all about the community. It’s all about doing things kind of together in a family oriented kind of way that brings people here to Manistee,” said Mick Szymanski, an organizer for the Victorian Sleighbell Parade.
