Some local students got free eye exams and glasses Thursday at Ferris State University.

More than 70 students from Fremont and Hesperia Schools were able to receive eye care.

All the exams were performed by students in the Ferris State optometry program.

It’s something the university has been doing for local districts since 2013 and these future eye doctors say they love the chance to make a difference in someone’s life.

“As students we went into this profession because we wanted to care for the population and help those that are in need and provide eye care to those who require it. So for us it’s a very rewarding and special feeling knowing that we’re making a difference,” said student Alina Usataia.

The Fremont Area Community Foundation provided funding for the eye exams.
