Traverse City Students Host Annual Food Drive
A northern Michigan high school is calling on students and the community to help with their latest food drive.
The Student Senate at Traverse City Central is running an annual food drive, with the goal of filling the principal’s office with donations. They’re calling it “Can the Principal”, and it’s also a competition between different wings in the high school.
They’re trying to collect items for the “STEP” Food Pantry, which supports fellow students who may be facing homelessness and are in need of food or clothing. Student Andrew Theophilus says, “Having food and having warm clothing, stuff like that, is just a bare minimum. It’s something that no one should have to live without. I think it’s essential that we provide that for people.”
The winning group will see their Assistant Principal dressed as an elf on the last day before Christmas break. The community is invited to make donations to the main office at TC Central during school hours, between now and December 20th.
Donations not used by the STEP Program will be shared with Father Fred or other local agencies.
