Apple pie is a staple year round and especially during the holidays. Just in time for Thanksgiving, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) selected the top 10 vegan pies from restaurants and bakeries across the United States. Third Coast Bakery in Traverse City was selected as one of the top ten for their vegan Apple Pie, meaning it has no animal products including zero dairy products.
The pie with Third Coast is handmade from scratch with a blend of Michigan Gala apples.
“Third Coast Bakery’s vegan Apple Pie is as delicious as it is kind to animals, and it’s the perfect way to end a Thanksgiving meal,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “All the decadent pies on PETA’s list show how easy it is to give everyone—including chickens and cows—something to be thankful for.”
The owner of Third Coast Bakery, Heather Burson says it’s a complete honor to know her apple pies are made with compassion toward animals and the national recognition puts Third Coast among some of the top bakeries in the nation.
