Amazing Northern Michigan Homes: Torch Lake Estate

It’s a seven bed, eight bath home with an elevator, home gym, library and guest house all situated on Torch Lake’s east side.

In this week’s Amazing Northern Michigan Home’s Whitney Amann and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson take you through this masterfully built estate.

“It has the comfort of a much smaller house and that’s really what makes it so unique and the first time I came here to visit, it just jumped out at me is that it’s very homey feeling,” said Joe Bommarito, real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. “It’s not just like a gigantic house on the lake.”

An 11,000 square foot home on the shores of Torch Lake that has the cozy, comfortable feeling of an up north cabin.

No matter where you go, you’re surrounded by its incredible craftsmanship.

“Anyone that knows anything about log work or post and beam construction, they are two of the most difficult forms of construction,” said Joe. “The craftsmanship is second to none in this house. Absolutely beautiful when it comes down to the railings, the custom light fixtures everything in the house, every little detail has been thought about including the exterior finishes as well.”

Metal panels accent the log and stone exterior.

There is even some Michigan history embedded in its walls.

“One part of the house has windows that were repurposed from the University of Michigan dorms so they are the old dorm windows which just gives kind of a neat feel, neat little history to a house located in Northern Michigan,” he says.

From U of M windows to intricate stick work on closet doors…there are unique features spread through the house to enjoy.

“Everywhere you look, you can see that there was a lot of time taken, a lot of thought put into every little area of the house,” Joe says. “There is no inch missed in this house anywhere.”

Whether you are preparing a meal in the impeccable kitchen, burning some calories in the fitness center or enjoying a real page-turner in the upstairs library you are always within view of beautiful Torch Lake.

“The house was designed in a way that every room in the house does have a view of the water,” said Joe. “I mean, let’s face it, you’re on the lake for a reason so it’s what you want to see and they took great care in making sure that you see the water from everywhere.”
