“It’s like Christmas, your birthday and thanksgiving all rolled into one!”

Opening Day is officially here and like many families across the state, the MacEachern’s are more than excited to get the season going! This love of the sport has been passed down for generations.

Mike MacEachern says, “Traditions are important because the hold people together. They hold families together-they hold friends together.”

These traditions are all credited to their father, Bob MacEachern. “I haven’t missed an opening day since 1945.”

If you do the math, that means this year he is celebrating his 74th consecutive opening day at 92 years-old. “My mind isn’t completely gone yet so.. I have a good time,” explains Bob.

With age comes wisdom. Bob MacEachern still has it. “He’s a very good hunter! He understands deer. He understands tactics-he’s got a lot of years hunting,” says Mike.

At 92 years-old Bob is sitting pretty in his deer blind. He’s almost certain he’s got it better than anyone else sitting out there today. “I have a big time up there. Then he put propane up there so I can hunt in a t-shirt and shorts and be comfortable!”

But more than shooting a buck, the MacEachern’s have found something much more meaningful. “Family is the only thing. If you’ve got family you don’t have to worry about anything,” explains Bob.

A simple reminder that life is short and to spend it surrounded by those you love.
