Hook & Hunting: Opening Day Brings Big Business

Just one more sleep until forearm season begins in Michigan and that means it has been a busy week for outdoorsman stores in Northern Michigan.

Hundreds of thousands of hunters will take to the woods for firearm season this year and the week leading up is one of the busiest in gear sales and licenses.

This year will be particularly busy with Opening Day on a Friday and and the near perfect conditions demanding a little extra gear.

“Tomorrow we will have some people come in, they either had an issue in the woods or they need some more ammo or that kind of stuff,” says Terry Doolittle of Goldstar Outdoors near Edmore, “Saturday and Sunday will both be very busy. With the cold weather a lot of guys buying heaters, disposable handwarmers trying to stay warm out there.”

Firearm season officially begins at sunrise tomorrow morning. Hunters can check their DNR Hunting Digest for an exact time in their location.
