Lake Superior State’s ‘Walk a Mile in Their Boots’ Raises Money for Veterans

“They risk their lives for us so we wanted to give back to them.”

The Salt Ste. Marie community put on their walking shoes Saturday to raise money for the men and women who have served their country.

The Lake Superior State University’s nursing program held the “Walk a Mile in Their Boots” event.

A few months ago, LSSU students came with the idea.

During this weekend of remembrance, people walk around the Norris Center track to raise money and talked to veterans.

A maps was also put on displace where veterans and families could mark where they were stationed.

“Being a small community, we really wanted to reach out to those veterans and show that we are there to support them,” said senior Morgan Kelly.  “They are not alone.”

Money raised from “Walk a Mile in Their Boots” will go towards transporting veterans to-and-from the veteran affairs hospital in Iron Mountain.
