TCAPS Transparency Group Submits Petition Language to Recall Three School Board Members
Traverse City community members have officially submitted petition language to recall three members of the school board.
Activists from TCAPS Transparency turned in the paperwork to the Grand Traverse County clerk’s office Thursday.
They want to get rid of Traverse City Area Public School board president Sue Kelly, and trustees Pamela Forton and Matt Anderson.
Kelly and others have been accused of bullying former superintendent Ann Cardon, who resigned from her position just 72 days into the job.
Some community members have also been upset about the board’s use of closed door meetings.
Organizer Ian Ashton says he’s most upset that these members accepted Cardon’s resignation.
“The actual language on the recall is solely focused on the Ann Cardon vote,” said Ashton. “They haven’t fulfilled their duties as school board members and having closed door meetings, there ap
pears to be a lot of different cliques.”
A judge needs to approve the petition language. The transparency group hopes that will happen before Thanksgiving.
If it’s approved, the petitions will need 12,000 signatures to be effective.
