Salvation Army in Traverse City Gearing Up for Holiday Assistance

The holiday season is right around the corner, and so is the season of giving.

The Salvation Army in Traverse City is ready to launch it’s Holiday Assistance Program. Families that could use some help in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties can sign up for help.

The Salvation Army will help with Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, and the toy shop for kids ages 0-17.

It’s open to families in those counties who have not applied for holiday assistance anywhere else.

Major Jeff Russell says, “Those who need help that’s why we’re here. There’s several people living paycheck to paycheck. And if this service provides that, this is the opportunity to take it.”

In Traverse City the Salvation Army helps between 220-280 families each holiday season.

Applications for assistance are taken in person at the Salvation Army on Barlow Street. Dates are this Thursday, this Saturday, and next Tuesday November 12th. Identification and Income Verification is required. For details, Click Here or call 231-946-4644.

If you can help, you can donate toys to Toys for Tots. Financial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army directly, or through the Red Kettle campaign.
