President Trump Announces Death of ISIS Leader al-Baghdadi

President Trump announced the death of the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Sunday morning in a U.S. Special Forces led raid on his compound in northern Syria.

The president called capturing or killing al-Baghdadi the top national security priority of his administration.

He said no American personnel was killed in the operation and multiple of al-Baghdadi’s forces died in the battle.

President Trump said as the ISIS leader tried to escape, he dragged three of his children through the hideout before detonating an explosive vest.

Officials say a combination of visual evidence and DNA tests confirmed al-Baghdadi’s identity.

His death comes after President Trump faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans on his decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria.

Hundreds of ISIS prisoners escaped during Turkey’s military offensive into the region.

President Trump says he did not notify certain members of Congress ahead of the raid because he was concerned about leaks jeopardizing the mission and the safety of the commandos.
