Amazing Northern Michigan Homes: Elegant Manistee Estate

It’s a beautiful built in the 1940’s and set on a hill overlooking Lake Michigan.

“It looks like a huge estate something similar to over in the Hamptons and it’s just beautiful,” said Lora Higdon, from North Harbor Christie’s International. “We’ve seen places like this in New Jersey where they’re sprawling and it’s gorgeous.”

An east coast feel on Michigan’s west coast.

This mid-century modern home near downtown Manistee has had many purposes over the years.

“It has been used as a bed-and-breakfast because the four bedrooms actually have suite bathrooms so it gives you that privacy and the apartment above the garage can be used for the caretaker, so that’s one usage that could be really great,” said Higdon.

The house, and the three acres of land it sits on, have multiple uses and could be a developers dream.

“It has three equal parcels that overlook Lake Michigan and they can be split off if somebody would want to take it on as a commercial type of a situation for condos or three separate homes,” she said. “Of course it’s beautiful the way that it is.”

Between the garage apartment and the four bedrooms on the second floor, there should be enough room for everyone but if it isn’t…just pull down the stairs for access to even more space.

“The large bonus room on the third floor as it is, it was an attic converted into that,” said Higdon. “If somebody would want to, they could reroute the stairway so that it could be actually technically called a bedroom because it does have its own closet space. So it’s just that it’s a pull down staircase so it can’t be technically call the bedroom but it’s huge.”

From the spacious kitchen or the elegant dining room, you can look out and enjoy views of the garden.

“Terraced gardens lead you out into the sauna building that separate and that it’s a great gathering area; there’s two or three decks that you can have a little parties and gatherings outside,” she said. “The sunsets are absolutely beautiful from the balcony on the second floor.”
