Prescription Drug Drop-Off Locations Remind Northern Michigan to Stay Safe

The Drug Enforcement Administration is reminding everyone to get rid of their medications properly.

Local agencies are participating in the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

Munson Medical Center in Traverse City is just one of many locations with a drop-off box.

Opioid Initiative Clinical Coordinator Christina Eickenroth says they are collecting expired, unused and unwanted tablets, pills, and capsules.

“It’s a safety thing. It’s to keep our family and friends safe, to keep it out of unwanted hands, to keep our environment safe. You don’t want to flush it down the toilet. Protect our water, and prevent any possible overdose or misuse,” Eickenroth says.

Munson healthcare hospitals have their drop-off boxes available year round.
