Emmet County Nonprofit Create Kits to Help Needy Families With Babies

A nonprofit organization in Emmet County is putting together layettes for needy families with babies.

Thursday and Friday, the Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan will pack 450 layettes, which are kits containing baby clothes, books, blankets, a diaper program and one handmade item.

They’ll be distributed to families in five Michigan counties through local health departments.

Thirteen volunteers are working on the layettes.

They say it feels good to help mothers in need.

“You’re reaching out to a young mother that is struggling and this is to give her something that is brand new for her baby, and I think every baby should start out new,” said Kathy Thompson, Christ Child Society Layette PR chair.

The layettes will be given to families in Emmet, Charlevoix, Otsego, Antrim and Cheboygan counties.
