Traverse City Leaders Gather for Housing Summit

Leaders from across the Grand Traverse region and beyond met Friday to discuss housing challenges in the area.

For the fifth year, Housing North and Networks Northwest have teamed up for the housing summit.

They discussed everything from local housing shortages to the need for housing statewide.

Some solutions to these challenges include a variety of subsides, incentives and zoning changes.

Another major topic of discussion included making housing projects work in rural areas.

“There are local groups that are doing public outreach, there are communities that are changing zoning, there are partners and volunteers and private sector developers that are actually building homes,” said Sarah Lucas, Executive Director of Housing North.

Housing North is also preparing to launch a campaign known as Homes For Our Future to help address northern Michigan’s housing needs.
