BREAKING: Michigan’s Longest Serving Gov. William G. Milliken Has Died

Michigan’s longest serving governor has died.

A spokesman says William G. Milliken died at his home in Traverse City Friday.

Milliken was governor for 14 years until 1983.

“Bill Milliken deeply appreciated Michigan, leading our state with distinction for nearly a generation. His time as Governor will be remembered for the kindness and civility he brought to his office. Our prayers are with Bill’s friends and family as they celebrate Bill Milliken’s remarkable life,” said the Michigan Republicans.

His priorities included civil rights, and helping Detroit as the city struggled with population loss.

Milliken was 97.
