Enbridge CEO Al Monaco was in Detroit Thursday to announce plans for some major changes to Line 5.
While speaking to the Canada, U.S. Business Association, Monaco outlined new ways Enbridge wants to keep Line 5 safe from anchor strikes in the straits of Mackinac.
He says Enbridge will implement new technology that identifies approaching vessels and notifies them of the no anchor zone in the straits.
They also announced plans to install cameras to monitor ship traffic in the straits 24/7 and add two support vessels on the water to monitor passing ships.
Monaco also said Enbridge is committed to hiring Michigan labor for the tunnel project, pipeline replacements, and maintenance.
This comes as Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a lawsuit in June aimed at decommissioning Line 5.
