Suspect Dies After Running From Ludington Police, Jumping Into Lake

A man wanted for domestic assault is dead after running from Ludington police Sunday night.

Ludington police responded to a call for domestic assault Sunday afternoon.

But when they arrived, the suspect had already run off.

Police tracked him to “the bayou” area of Ludington, where the man was on the end of a dock.

When they approached him, he jumped in and tried to swim across that arm of the lake.

After 12 minutes in the water, police were able to reach him but he was unconscious.

Less than an hour later, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death, but police say the water temperature was in the mid-50s while the air was in the low 40s at the time.
