Group Recreates Starry Night Mural in Downtown Gaylord

Putting a local spin on some famous artwork, a wall in downtown Gaylord has come to life thanks to the work of some creative volunteers.

Nine volunteers with the Gaylord Area Council for the Arts decided to pool their talents and re-create the famous painting “starry night” by Vincent Van Gogh.

It now decorates the back wall of the Gaylord Area Arts Council Building.

They put a local spin on it, adding details that are unique to downtown Gaylord, hoping that people will come up to get a closer look.

“Starry, Starry night is done by Vincent Van Gogh. A lot of people know who he is, even people who don’t do art. Before it was just a drab wall. Nobody really knew where the art center is. They kind of just drive by. We wanted to bring that visual presence in the community,” says Nina Gee, volunteer.

They plan to keep adding to the mural.

The next addition will be this painting of a little girl stepping into the mural.
