Shutdown Avoided, State Employees to Expect Normal Work Week
State employees should expect to go to work this week after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the state government will not shut down.
It’s the last day for Gov. Whitmer to sign off on state funding in order to avoid a shutdown.
We told you last week that the Republican-controlled legislature passed a new state budget and sent the deal over to the governor.
On Friday, she emailed all 48,000 state employees telling them to prepare for a normal work week this week.
Governor Whitmer says she’ll use her power to sign off on the budget to avoid a partial government shutdown.
That could include line-item veto power.
A partial shutdown would have started Tuesday, if no budget was signed.
