Toys for Tots Returning to Mecosta County

After over 5 years, Toys for Tots is coming back to a Northern Michigan county.

Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, giving toys to children whose parents can’t afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. And now, after several years, its returning to Mecosta County.

This Sunday, you can drop off unopened toys at the Walmart in Big Rapids; so that all kids in Mecosta County have a present to open on Christmas.

“I like to see the smiling faces on the parents when they know that they can get their kids Christmas, it’s an over welcome feeling,” says Angela Malek, Mecosta County Toys for Tots coordinator. “We want to help children and that’s what it’s all about, helping the children.”

Right now, Malek is hoping to relaunch the program back to Mecosta County. For the program to be a success, they need volunteers, fundraisers and donations of toys, good, and services from the community. They are also looking for businesses to host collection bins.

Here are a list of events to help out the Toys for Tots in Mecosta County:

  • September 29th – Bake Sale (Walmart, Big Rapids)
  • October 19th – Bake Sale (Walmart, Big Rapids)
