Search for Boater on Hamlin Lake Hampered By Algae, Weeds, Water Runoff

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says recovery efforts of Robert Conklin have been hampered by large weed beds, algae and water runoff in Hamlin Lake.

Emergency crews have been searching for the 54-year-old man from West Olive since Saturday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office says he and a woman were fishing on Hamlin Lake on Saturday when the two of them mysteriously went overboard.

The woman was rescued by other boaters, but Conklin never resurfaced.

The sheriff’s office says Sunday’s recovery efforts were hampered by large weeds and thick algae. They also had to deal with water runoff from heavy rains, all of which caused visibility issues for divers.

Crews are back out right now looking for Conklin.
