Health in Focus: Jagannathan Neurosurgery Spinal Cord Tumors

has been helping people across Michigan regain their strength and stability through countless procedures and some challenging diagnoses.

LeAnn Barnes is one of those patients. She had a benign spinal cord tumor that was causing problems with her coordination, balance, and basic walking. From running half-marathons to sitting in a wheelchair, she knew something was up and decided that at Jagannathan Neurosurgery was the man to fix it.

A benign spinal tumor is a growth that develops within the spinal canal. It can also be called an intradural tumor. The tumor grows from the outside of the bone, in and can cause serious neurological disorders if left untreated. It is slow growing and difficult to pinpoint the location of the tumor.

LeAnn said, “I am walking thanks to Dr. Jagannathan and the Michigan Neurological Institute working with me to reteach me to walk.”

She said the symptom can be vague, but it is important to listen to your body and find a resolution.
