Former Rep. Todd Courser Sentenced to Probation

Former state Representative Todd Courser was sentenced Monday after he pleaded no contest to willful neglect of duty.

Police say he tried to keep his extramarital affair with another state lawmaker a secret.

Courser asked an aide to send a bogus email to fellow Republicans to try and discredit rumors he was having an affair with former state Representative Cindy Gamrat.

Monday a Lapeer County circuit court judge sentenced him to a year of probation and a fine of more than $1,000.

If Courser doesn’t perform 90 hours of community service, he’ll get 15 days in jail.

If he violates his probation, he’ll have to go to jail for another 30 days.
