Israel Denies Planting Surveillance Devices in White House

Israel’s government is playing defense, after reports that the country planted surveillance devices near the White House.

The devices were found last year.

According to U.S. intelligence officials they mimic cell phone towers, and trick cell phones in the area into transmitting their locations, calls, texts and other data streams.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the claims that his country hid the devices, calling it a blatant lie.

But U.S. security officials say it’s highly possible that Israel could buy these devices anonymously, and then use them as part of their U.S. intelligence gathering.
