Hook & Hunting: Liberty Hunt Taking Place this Weekend

An opportunity for young or disabled hunters is taking place this weekend with the annual Liberty Hunt.

Youth hunters 16 years old and younger can participate as well as hunters with disabilities with qualifying permits.

The two day season is this Saturday and Sunday.

It allows these hunters to get out in some less challenging conditions.

Both antler and antlerless deer are allowed to be harvested this weekend.

“It gives them an opportunity to get out hunting in some conditions maybe that it’s more conducive for them to be able to get out and for families to take some time with their young hunters to hopefully get them hooked and get them interested in the tradition of hunting,” said Lt. Joe Molnar, with the DNR in Traverse City.

Keep in mind, there is a one deer limit this weekend, even if you have a combo tag.
