Kingsley High School Senior Born on 9/11 Heading to the Navy
The birth of a child should be among the happiest days of your life, but what if your child was born on September 11, 2001?
“It’s unique and it definitely surprised people when I told them that I was born on 9-11.”
Kingsley senior William Fink came into the world the day terrorists attacked New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
His father says he remembers seeing a video of the planes hitting the towers shortly after William was born.
“Cathy was still in the hospital and we were watching it from there and then when we got home it was months we’d watch it over and over again,” Mark Fink, William’s dad said.
William’s birth brought joy for his family, despite being born on such a somber day.
“We always looked at it as a tragic day but a wonderful day because Will was born. That was always the bright spot for us and our family,” Mark Fink said.
“So I try to like to separate it know yeah it’s my birthday but people are also like mourning like loses so I try to like be respectful of that,” William said.
And it affected him more than you might expect, from a young age William felt a calling to serve.
“I feel like it’s definitely like pushed me to be more apt to serve my country,” he said.
“He actually was wanting to be a police officer,” Mark said.
William decided to serve his country. He’s headed for the Navy.
“I joined the Navy because I wanted to serve my country and it also opened up a lot of opportunities for me.”
“I’m excited. It’s a great honor for my son, going into the Navy.”
The boy born into a nation shocked on 9-11, will begin serving it next year.
