Future of Purdue Pharma, Maker of OxyContin, to be Decided
$4. 5 billion, that’s how much the family at the center of the opiod crisis could end up paying out in settlements.
They could also lose their company all together.
That’s one of the settlement options on the table for the Sackler family. They own Purdue Pharma, which makes OxyContin.
And right now they’re facing more than 2,000 lawsuits.
Someone close to the negotiations says the company could also file bankruptcy in an effort to preserve the value of the company and pay out as many settlements as possible.
The family has already rejected two proposals, but a Purdue spokeswoman says they do actually want to settle.
