Emmet County’s Carp Lake General Store Destroyed By Fire

A long-standing general store in Emmet County has been reduced to ash and timbers.

Fire ripped through it Wednesday evening, burning out the structure.

The sheriff’s office says everyone was able to get out of the Carp Lake General Store after the fire started.

It started around 4 p.m.

The store is on Gill Rd., just across from Paradise Lake in Carp Lake Township.

Cell phone video sent to 9&10 News from a viewer shows flames and a tower of smoke that could be seen for miles.

Bob Winters is the owner of the Carp Lake General Store owner.

He says the store has been a staple in the community for years.

“There’s a lot of people have been coming to this store all their lives because it’s been there that long,” said Winters.

He also said some pets could have been lost in the fire but it is unclear.

As of Wednesday evening, the cause of the fire is also unknown.
