Big Rapids Wins State Community Landscape Beautification Award

The City of Big Rapids has been awarded the 2019 Community Landscape Winner of the Plant Michigan Green competition!

Plant Michigan Green is a statewide competition by the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association. The program recognizes communities for their excellence in improving the physical and aesthetic environment in their neighborhood. Big Rapids pulled out all the stops in this year’s submission. All throughout downtown, you can see rows of blooming gardens and large pots of vibrant flowers.

“For one thing, we’re a small town and I think sometimes they don’t expect to see the vibrancy and the beauty in downtown like we have, says Carlleen Rose, owner of Kilwins in Big Rapids. “But when you love your downtown and when you’re a community that cares, this is our showpiece, this is the thing that makes up stand out.”

Big Rapids is already planning next year’s Plant Michigan Green submission. They say every year their design gets bigger and better.
