Help One Local Girl with Cancer at The “London Strong” Softball Tournament

A Chippewa County community is connecting to help a little girl who is fighting cancer.

8-year-old London Carey lives in Sault Sainte Marie, but currently is in Grand Rapids for treatment for a rare kind of nerve cancer.

Doctors found the cancer earlier this summer.

They removed a tumor behind her right eye, but now she has to go through weeks of chemotherapy along with several follow up exams to make sure the cancer does not spread.

Family, friends and the Soo community are coming together tomorrow to host a “London Strong” Softball Tournament.

London Strong coordinator, Ben Bumstead and Jessica Forbes said, “We have known her since she was a baby. She’s always smiling! Always happy. London’s just a joyful little girl, energetic, always having fun. She’s in high spirits. She’s keep smiles on her face. It’s huge the amount of help and support you receive from all the people. I mean from single donors to businesses…all over. We have a lot of donations from local businesses. A lot of people were just very very willing to go ahead and give if it’s a twenty dollar gift card or donate some money. Just a huge shout out to all of our local support and our businesses that were more than willing to help out.”

The games start at 10 a.m. tomorrow on the 8th Avenue Softball Fields.

There will be raffles and giveaways.

Let’s fill those bleachers and show support for London.
