Michigan’s Largest Brewery Being Sold to Spanish Company

Michigan’s craft beer industry is one of the biggest and most popular in the country.

Now a Spanish company will buy the state’s largest brewery.

Founders Brewing of Grand Rapids has told state regulators it is being sold to a Spanish partner group.

The Mahou San Miguel group will own 90% of the brewery by January.

The Madrid based company first acquired a 30% stake in Founders in 2014.

Founders was first established in 1997 by Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers.

The brewery says its co-founders will each hold a 5% share of the company after the sale and “have no intention of leaving.”

Founders is best known for its popular All Day IPA, Breakfast Stout and Centennial IPA beers.
