Hurricane Dorian: Traverse City’s Salvation Army on Standby to Help

Here in Northern Michigan, the Salvation Army is ready to help those impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

The Salvation Army has trained disaster relief volunteers on call, but more help is always needed.

You have to take an online class to become certified.

Major Russell from the Traverse City Salvation Army says it’s important to get the certification before a disaster strikes.

“You have to be prepared if you’re going to go into an emergency disaster, you can’t just think that you’re going to get into your car and just go help,” he says. “The best way you see that type of training is, and to see what’s available, is to go to the national emergency disaster website for the Salvation Army.”

The Salvation Army has not called on anyone from Northern Michigan yet, but Russell says they are ready to send volunteers south if they do get that call.
