Traverse City Community Gathers for Overdose Awareness Day

Several northern Michigan organizations came together Thursday tonight for an overdose awareness day event.

They hosted the event in Traverse City to help educate the public about what they can do to support those in recovery from drug addiction.

They also took time to remember those who lost their lives to a drug overdose.

The event took place at the Firewise Garden at the Botanical Gardens at Barns Park in Traverse City.

There were several speakers, live music and a prayer of remembrance.

People were also asked to bring toiletry items for homes housing people in recovery.

“I hope that when people come tonight they honor those that we have lost, but they have a better awareness and are interested in a better education about how to support people that are not just already in recovery but those that haven’t yet sought recovery, how do we support them,” said Nancy Dow, who lost her daughter to an overdose.
